The Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023 (ECCTA) is introducing new rules concerning the verification of the identity of people associated with companies registered on Companies House.
Starting in March 2025, directors of limited companies, members of LLPs and persons of significant control (PSCs) will be able to complete the verification voluntarily, with mandatory verification expected to be introduced later on this year. Once the system has become compulsory, all persons registered to a company will likely have to complete the verification process before the company is able to file its next return.
The exact process that will need to be followed has not yet been announced, but we know that Companies House will be appointing various professionals to become Authorised Corporate Service Providers (ACSP). Vanner Perez Notaries will be offering this service as soon as it goes live.
More details of this and of various other changes that have been or will be introduced by ECCTA can be found within this Government Policy Paper.
